Is thinking we should come up with theme songs for our web friends. First up, @danrubin: “I’m not a player, I just crush a lot.” Perfect.
Craig Salia is moving to Seattle and joining our friends at MSNBC.com. It’s a great company, great position, and great team — and a great move for Craig. Congrats! See you in Seattle! :) Visit site »
My take: there are many canonical examples of interaction design. There are very, very few canonical examples of visual design on the web. It’s important that people talk about these things separately when we’re making a critique. They’re two totally separate disciplines and sites which have nailed one may downright suck at the other (see Google). Obviously, the best sites are those that excel in both areas — as well as others, like information architecture, accessibility, performance, copywriting, and so forth. Very few sites exist that truly work well on all levels. Visit site »
I’ve written a lengthy post on CMSes and how to pick the right one for your site. You can find it over at the Blue Flavor blog. Check it out. Visit site »
Running late, but heading onto the office in a few…
I’d really like to go to one of the two of these. Not sure if I will or not yet, but I’d like to. You should, too. Visit site »
James Bennett writes about working with Django without “projects,” but rather using apps directly. Over the past several months, my development projects have mostly jumped to this methodology, based a lot on what I learned from working with Ellington at Mediaphormedia.
But don’t stop at this article — James has been getting back into blogging hardcore, and is trying to write a post every day this month. Almost all of them are Django-related, and they’re all really good. Visit site »
This is a freaking great idea. Sadly, it’s a pain in the ass to implement, so I won’t bother. But this is exactly the sort of thing Apple should have built-into Stacks to make them better. I love the concept of Stacks, but the implementation is definitely lacking. I’m sure it’ll get better over the next few releases of OS X — just like everything else has. Visit site »
Running late, but head
Really nice infographics that show the movement of various baseball pitches. Beyond the ones everyone knows (fastball, curve, slider, etc.), it goes into some of the more obscure pitches (slurve, circle change, palmball, etc.). Very handy reference, and beautifully illustrated. Nice looking site, too. Visit site »
Ashley Wells, creative director at MSNBC.com and all around good guy, posting an interesting look at the progression of designs his team went through as they inched closer and closer to the finished product, which everyone has probably seen by now. It’s an interesting insight that we usually don’t get for products like MSNBC.com — check it out. Visit site »
