As the biggest baseball fan imaginable in my childhood, I simply never thought I’d see the day someone hit 756. Legit or not, it’s an amazing record and huge day for baseball. Congrats to Barry. He was a great, great player even before he (apparently) took steroids, and he has handled himself very, very well this year. It’s definitely a bit sad that this day is tainted by the controversy — it’s overshadowing just how hallowed and unbreakable this record was considered to be not so long ago.

Myself, I’ll give Barry the benefit of the doubt for now — innocent until proven guilty, and all that (though I do expect he will eventually be proven guilty). At this point, I’m comfortable calling him the greatest player that ever lived. Visit site »

I was going to write this post, but my esteemed colleague from The Flava East beat me to it. I was really excited about the new Apple keyboards, since I love my MacBook keyboard, but I was really bummed when I saw the Bluetooth one was all lilliputian. The undernourished profile view is wonderful, but why must is be a paltry two-thirds size in length? Why, Apple…why!? I love wireless input devices on my desktops for the lack of cord mess, but I also don’t really want a infinitesimal keyboard with only a smattering of the keys it should have. I want my keyboards tail-less, but not stunted, dammit. Visit site »

Khoi interviews Olav, the guy who has packaged up a lot of the work we did at LJWorld.com (along with some more work!) into a handy CS framework called Blueprints. It’s a great little interview.

For the record, I was surprised and a bit taken aback when I first saw that someone else had packaged up a lot of our work and released it publicly, but in the end I’m very pleased about it. There some great stuff in there, and Olav has added to it, and done a great job of documenting it and supporting it. And, he definitely gives credit to everyone involved — he was never trying to rip us off. He just wanted to provide something useful, and I’m glad he has! Visit site »

BusinessWeek has a really nice profile of Jeffrey Zeldman, arguably the most significant individual in helping the web standards movement take hold. Good to see Z getting his due. In my mind, he’s got to be one of the top five most important people in the history of the web (which, by the way, would be an interesting piece for someone to write). Visit site »
