Guido, Python’s creator and programmer God, has this to say about Django:

Django is still my favorite — not only is it a pretty darn good web framework that matches my style of developing, it is also an exemplary example of a good open source project, run by people who really understand community involvement.

That’s a solid endorsement. Via Jacob. Visit site »

Kevin had me on for one of his patented “callcasts” yesterday, and has posted the result today. We talked about Django, Blue Flavor, new-fangled CSS properties, the great experimental web design of the late ‘90s, and more. It’s a short, laid-back conversation about a lot of different things, and it was definitely fun to do. Check it out! Visit site »

Randal Schwartz of the TWiT networks’ FLOSS podcast interviewed Django lead developer Jacob Kaplan-Moss for the show’s latest episode. It’s a great interview, which covers everything from Django’s history to how it compares to Rails and other Python frameworks, to what Jacob hates about PHP and Java, to and general overview of what Django is and how it works. Really good stuff. If you’re curious about Django, definitely check it out. Visit site »

Kevin from howiworkdaily.com had my good friend and design hero Nathan Borror on the line for a 30 minute podcast. They two discuss Django, Basic Apps, playgroundblues.com, the iPhone, and more. It’s a really good listen.

I’ve said it before, but I’ll take the opportunity to say it again: Nathan Borror is absolutely the most underrated web professional on the Internet. He’s quite possibly the most talented person I’ve ever worked with. His attention to detail and breadth of knowledge across all aspects of web work is surpassed only by his sympathy for the user. I know just about every amazing designer in this industry, and Nathan would still be the first person I’d call if I were hiring.

And, he’s a great fucking guy, too.

A nice interview with Django co-creator and “journalism via programming” pioneer Adrian Holovaty. If you’ve been drinking Adrian’s kool-aid for a while (as I have), you’re not likely to find much new here, but if you aren’t familiar with Adrian and what he does, this interview should give you a nice overview.

42 Topics also has interviews with several others in the Django community, including Jacob Kaplan-Moss and James Bennett, available for your perusal. Visit site »

Vanity Fair has “an oral history of the internet,” in which several pioneers, from Steve Case to Marc Andreessen to Jeff Bezos to Jerry Yang to Craig Newmark to Cindy Margolis (yes, Cindy Margolis), right up through Larry Page, Fake Steve Jobs, and Mark Zuckerberg discuss the history of this medium. Pretty awesome. Visit site »

Here’s the scoop: LOST will have 13 episodes total in season four (down from a planned 16). Eight episodes were finished pre-writer’s strike; five will be penned now that the strike is over. There will be a four-week hiatus after episode eight before the final (new) five. The writers will complete the planned story arc of season four (i.e., the season will end in the same place they’d planned for it two) — they’ll just do it in five episodes instead of eight. The three lost episodes will be “made up” in seasons five and six, so we’ll ultimately end up with the same number of total episodes for the show.

Overall, this is good news. Obviously, we’d love to have all eight episodes of season four and we’d love to not have a month hiatus — but, given the circumstances, I think this is a better result for fans than most of us thought we’d get. Here’s hoping the three lost episodes means season four will finish up at breakneck pace. I’ve really enjoyed the first two episodes of season four — it’s nice to have that, “is it Thursday yet” feeling back every week (of course, it used to that “Is it Wednesday yet?” feeling…but, whatever). Kudos to Molly for being willing to ask Bill Gates tough questions straight to his face. Personally, I’m less interested in what MS is doing with regards to standards support in IE8 and more interested in what they’re doing to improve adoption rate of their newer browsers (like IE7 now, and IE8 when it’s available).
