Second and Park: Web Copy That Works
My good friend and colleague Tiffani Jones has moved on from Blue Flavor and is doin’ her own thing! Tiff’s a terrific copywriter. I’d highly recommend her services to nearly anyone with a web presence. Great, simple site design by Matt Brown, too. Tangentially, I really wish more consumers of web design (i.e. “clients”) would be willing to pay for great copywriting. It makes such a huge difference in the overall quality of a site.

Nick Finck
My good friend (and boss) Nick has launched a new version of his site, and it looks great. He worked with (other good friend) Matt Brown on the design.

Don’t work in your underwear
Matt’s got some great tips on freelancing. Many of them apply to me, as well, even though I’m not a freelancer. Now that I’m working from Kansas City, at home and away from the Blue Flavor office, I’ve found many of the same things to be true; in particular, “dressing for work,” and have a clean, organized workspace. I admit I don’t really dress in work clothes, but I do get up, shower, shave, and put on clean, fresh clothes. It really makes a difference, compared to sitting around in your boxers with greasy hair the shadow you got at five ‘clock — a week ago.

Matt Brown on “Digital Film”
Matt talks about a few ways the digital photography process if different from shooting film, and why those difference may be keeping you from getting the best possible photos. He offers some great tips on how to “reel yourself in” from the digital world and get back to some of the film methods that work so well.
While I generally think these are great tips and would definitely encourage anyone to try them, I also think some of the things Matt suggests avoiding (taking too many photos, using the LCD too much, etc.) can be great exercises in and of themselves. I guess what I’m saying is: while one can definitely learn a lot by shutting off the LCD and limiting the number of shots, I think one can also learn a lot by taking a million photos, rushing home, and seeing what they got. The thing is, most folks already do that every day, so Matt’s suggestions are a great change of pace for those who have never shot film, or haven’t shot film in a long time.

Matt Brown: Brown Blog
Matt, a great web designer and friend in Seattle, has finally launched his blog. After I met this guy at a Refresh Seattle shortly after he moved to town, we exchanged several e-mails that got into some rants and saves about the industry. I told him, “dude, you’ve gotta get a blog.” And he finally has. Trust me, you want to subscribe to this one. Plus, it’s got a nice design.
