Oh, and another thing: My ill will toward Roy was laid to rest last night. I have nothing to be jealous of. He wore his pin, looked like he felt sad inside, and we won what he didn’t - a great one.
I generally agree on the Roy thing, though I have to wonder: How did North Carolina fans feel about him sporting the Jayhawk sticker?
I’m trying to think how’d I’d have felt if Illinois or Oklahoma State was in the championship game and Self was on the sidelines sporting their gear. Hmm…not sure.
Jeff - it’s odd for certain, but odd circumstances too. I think the point is that he seems pretty intent on doing whatever he can to “make it right,” even if only for himself. Is it not classic Roy? What he did was natural, possibly even “right,” but maybe he went about it the wrong way. At this point, such mistakes seem more forgivable.
The fans I was with boo’d when they first saw him on television, but by the second half - they’d clap when they cut to him. That’s a good reflection of my feelings on the matter over the last few days. I think this year’s tournament was a great moment for both Roy and the fans to put it behind us.
If Self were doing such a thing, I wouldn’t care much, especially if it were OSU (Illinois wouldn’t make much sense, he didn’t spend that much time there). Roy spent 15 years of his life here, I think he’d like to reconcile those years as good memories. Fine by me if that’s how he does it, and I imagine, fine by UNC fans (who still totally suck and are mega dumb).
