Is is RAW?
If so, you could adjust the exposure down to create a new image that you could combine with this one, using the proper exposures of both:

Or next time, try shooting at a lower exposure and using the flash, although that would probably mess with the nice shadows.

Also, if you wanted to get the exposures closer here are a few options:
-use a polarizing filter in the sun (like sunglasses for your lens)
-familiarize yourself with the burn and dodge tools in photoshop (how the oldsters did it in the darkroom)
