I had almost nothing to do with this one, other than a bit of critque here and there, but I think it’s nice and I wanted to show it off. Design by Christian Metts (with cues taken from Nathan Borror’s work on LJWorld.com), code by the whole World Online programming team. Special consideration by Matt Croydon.
As usual, it’s Ellington and Django powered.

My god, that’s beautiful work. Looks more like the “PDF of the print version” most newspaper sites link to, than their typical site.002 // Jeff_Werner // 06.27.2007 // 8:56 PM

Thanks guys. As the first site I was design lead on since I’ve been at the JW, I’m excited about it! :) Live link be http://craigdailypress.com/.005 // Jeff Croft // 06.27.2007 // 10:14 PM

Can you clone Christian for me? This is gorgeous.007 // nateklaiber // 06.28.2007 // 7:31 AM
wow. that looks better than our local printed newspaper. nice work!008 // cowpiesurprise // 06.28.2007 // 7:40 AM
Very nicely done. The top story’s headline made me do a double-take. :)009 // Jeff Croft // 06.28.2007 // 7:55 AM
Rob: You’re not the only one. :)010 // Geof Harries // 06.28.2007 // 9:01 PM
Looks gorgeous, but I gotta say, the lead headline is overly gigantic. If it were me, I’d knock it down a few sizes. It’s nearly as big as the logo.011 // Jeff Croft // 06.28.2007 // 9:12 PM
Geof — like I said, I didn’t design this one, so I can’t speak for Christian, but in my prsonal opinion, the lead headline should be stronger than the logo. Not necessarily bigger, but certainly stronger (bigger is one way to acomplish that, but not the only way). The purpose of a quality news site is to provide news, not to show off it’s brand. :) Thanks for the kind words!012 // lauriay // 06.28.2007 // 9:50 PM
Wow. I never thought anything from Craig could look that good.013 // Geof Harries // 06.28.2007 // 10:24 PM
I’m in agreement with you about headlines being more important than a corporate logo. I just find that they’re competing against one another too much. If both were minimized there’d be less of a bar brawl going on. As an example, LJ World accomplishes this very well. Both elements are much smaller and hence, more visually appealing, well, at least in my opinion :)
