"Photocasting" a valid RSS feed

We had the idea at work today that we should throw together a so-called (by Apple, anyway) “photocast” of all LJWorld.com photos. However, an “official” photocast is a non-valid RSS feed (Apple has added various elements to the spec, which is utterly stupid). Producing a non-valid RSS feed goes against our elitist philosophies, so we chose to produce a good, valid RSS feed of the photos instead. Thanks to the wonders of Django, Jacob was able to whip one up in a matter of about four minutes.

I got home to my iPhoto ‘06-equipped Powerbook and gave it a shot — it works! I’m sure Apple’s added elements give you some additional features, but the good news is that a basic, valid RSS feed of photos works great in iPhoto as a “Photocast.”

I’ve actually built something for this too. Via applescript (ala Automator). But I’m waiting to drop it when I know that I can release something that everyone can use.
