For Christmas, my sister scanned several hundred old photos and organized thousands of prints into albums for my parents. I used several of her scans to make them a “life poster.” These are a few of my favorite photos that were dug up in the process.
This shot is kind of disgusting, I admit, but the story behind it is great. My Grandma and Grandpa were on vacation in Las Vegas when my Grandma got hit by a car going 45mph as she was walking across the street on a 105 degree Vegas day. She ended up laying on incredibly hot concrete for a long time, causing her burns all over her body (in addition to the several cuts, bruises, and other injuries she sustained when the car hit her). There’s really no way she should have lived through this — but my Grandma seems to have nine lives (she’s also beaten breast cancer twice and survived a car accident that killed another passenger).
Anyway, the punch line of the story is that she’s such a gambling addict that she was at the slots 24 hours later — in her wheelchair.
That’s how we roll in my family.
