    Visual voicemail is obvious in retrospect, but nobody in the last half decade of phone development at Palm or Microsoft thought to fix the problem.

    That’s an especially good point. Why -didn’t- someone figure that out? You’ve got the Palm guy saying no PC guys are going to walk in and figure out how to do a phone — why wasn’t this figured out in the several years that cell phones have had display screens?

    It’s a perfect example of a feature that “seems” easy and obvious, but that Apple seems to excel at actually implementing. Unfortuantely, because it seems obvious, you’ll have naysayers saying that it “is” obvious, and therefore not all that great.
