As a huge fan of scratch DJs and turntablists, I’m not sure I can agree with everything that’s said here, but I definitely enjoy the humorous writing and I do agree that there’s a difference between club DJing and turntablism. Both have their place, in my mind.

There is a big difference between turntablism and “club Djing” and the article is certainly funny. She does make some good points, in a Colbert kind of way…
She mentions flow, somehting that takes time, a natural empathy and a vast knowledge of the music your playing to do right. Picking the right songs to not only keep the dancefloor packed and the party going — but raise (or in some cases lower) the energy level song for song isn’t trivial. A great dj can almost control the room with the songs s/he choses.
Sure it takes less technical skill than turntablism, but it’s not something that just anyone can pick up and do well. A love of music, a knowledge of people and perception of energy…you need all of those an more to be a great dj.
Funny stuff though.
