Women in Tech: Asking the Wrong Questions
I’m late on this one, but I had to link it up anyway. Lea really does a great job of re-framing the top of women on the web, and tries to ask questions that are more likely to have a concrete answer than “where are all the women in technology?” This is a topic that’s been beaten like a dead horse, but Lea really puts a fresh spin on it and makes it interesting again. She doesn’t have any answers, but at least she’s getting us to ask the right questions.

Measuring the Design Process
A really thoughtful and insightful post on the relationship between engineering and design, as a follow-up to Doug Bowman’s post wherein he described his reasons for leaving The Google.

Help! My iPod thinks I’m emo
A write up of what I heard was a great talk about music recommendation engines at SXSW. Recommendation engines and collaborative filtering is of great interest to me, lately, since I’m working with it on 97 Bottles. In fact, I’ll be giving a talk on the topic at Webvsions in May.

Nicole Sullivan: Object Oriented CSS video on YDN
Really great talk by Nicole Sullivan on what she calls “Object Oriented CSS.” This is more or less the methodology I started using a coupe years ago that got me talking about what I called CSS “frameworks,” and I still believe it’s the best way to write, re-use, and maintain CSS. Nicole has some great tips, including some I hadn’t heard before. You can also view the slides on Slideshare.

understudy
An in-progress plugin for Front Row that adds Hulu and Netflix streaming support. I’ve recently moved to a tiny studio condo with no TV and no cable, so I’m in the process of trying to set up a good iMac-based TV solution. Once I get it all figured out, it’ll probably be worth a blog post about my experiences.

A look at Foursquare and Gowalla
Two highly-anticipated, location-based, IRL-style “games” for iPhone were launched at South By Southwest Interactive this year, and I thought I’d take a few moments to report on my experiences with each one.
First up is Foursquare, a sequel of sorts to the popular Dodgeball mobile tool, which was purchased by Google a few years ago and then killed very recently. The second new iPhone game is Gowalla, and it comes from my good friends at Alamofire. The two have a lot in common, but as you might expect, it’s their differences that are interesting. Let’s get into it…
